The thought of stumbling across a chest filled with gold, silver, and emeralds was the stuff dreams were made off!
Movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean to Raiders of the Lost Ark, Nicolas Cage uncovering secrets in “National Treasure,” to Robert Louis Stevenson telling tales of booty in Treasure Island… captured our imagination about finding treasure.
There’s just something about treasure hunting that continues to fascinate us to this day.
They take place under the sea, in jungles, in deserts, on deserted islands, even in the attics of old houses.
Treasures are hidden all around us… all we have to do is find them… If you can!
Long before steel vaults guarded treasures, people sought to safeguard their valuables by hiding them in the ground in locations kept confidential via coded maps and complex ciphers.
Kings, queens, pirates, invading armies, were known to have large treasures.
To prevent their treasures from being looted, they were often hidden in lakes, caves, secret valleys, under the sea, under trees and everywhere in between.
Many of these ancient treasures whereabouts remain a mystery to this day.
In many cases – such as imprisonment, wars, or death – those privy to the secret were unable to recover the buried assets.
We’re talking about vast hordes of treasures worth billions in today’s money.
In the Atlantic, pirates looted Spanish treasure Galleons laden with gold, silver, and emeralds.
From Panama to Spain, the Atlantic Ocean floor is littered with treasure from storm wrecked Spanish Treasure Ships.
On the beaches of Florida, even today, metal detectorist and beachcombers still find pieces of eight, doubloons, emeralds, and other valuable items that wash ashore from these storm wrecked ships from centuries ago.

In 2013, a California couple took their dog for a walk on their property in the Sierra Nevada’s something they’d done many times before. But this time they took a different route. And it’s a good thing they did. The couple made a life-changing discovery. They found several cans containing 1,411 pre 1894 gold coins worth over 10 million dollars.
In Australia an accidental discovery yielded $200,000 in buried bank notes discovered on a development site that had been buried by persons unknown 60 years earlier going by the dates on the bank notes.
In 2020, a gardener in England, dug up 63 gold coins worth millions dating from the 16th century, right in his back yard.
In another accidental discovery in England, a gardener dug up 50 gold coins worth about $100,000 dollars.
